GTA III
I recently finished Grand Theft Auto III, a game I have huge nostalgia for, and I'm happy I put in the
time to finish it.
However, while I love the game, aesthetic, and overall vibe, the engine, especially compared to its
counterparts, has aged badly. The driving is incredibly floaty and overall not fun in my opinion, and
the basic lock-on system left a lot to be desired.
That being said, you gotta appreciate what Rockstar did with GTA III and how well they pulled it off
for 2001. The story is surprisingly good, the characters all feel real, and it's nice to see they
aren't all comedic stereotypes.
The mission structure throughout GTA 3 is definitely a mixed bag, with some feeling like filler while
others being quite satisfying.
The end certainly feels this way. The gauntlet of enemies is tough but ultimately fair; however, the
carpet bombing helicopter and $500k needed to even start the mission feel cheap.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with GTA 3, and I'm glad I made my younger self proud.
